What makes BMI different from other institutions?

Beatrice Mayes Institute, among Houston's oldest African-American owned institutions, is committed to serving our community and nurturing children's professional and personal growth. We embrace students from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, fostering a safe, inclusive environment where they can find a sense of belonging and access resources to thrive.

What is the immunization policy at BMI?

All students must have the required immunizations to enroll at BMI. Without these, attendance in classes is not permitted. Proof of vaccination is necessary for enrollment. A form outlining the required immunizations is available. If your child cannot receive certain immunizations for medical reasons, please provide a medical exemption from their physician.

Does BMI offer an early childhood education program?

BMI's earliest grade level is Kindergarten. For a comprehensive early childhood education program, we recommend Wonderland Private School.

Available for children aged 18 months to 4 years, Wonderland's curriculum covers academic disciplines in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics, along with character building and moral foundations.

Tuition and related fees are required for enrollment at Wonderland Private School.

Does BMI have a uniform policy?

Students must adhere to our uniform policy at all times. Uniforms aid in maintaining focus and alleviate pressure related to appearance.

For detailed information on our uniform policy, please consult our student handbook available on our resources page.

How do I as a parent or legal guardian pay for student expenses?

BMI utilizes an online payment system for school expenses like fees and apparel.

Make payments in four easy steps:
1. Set up a RevTrack account with your email and password.
2. Add items to your shopping cart.
3. Proceed to checkout.
4. Enter your payment details, using debit or credit cards.

Does BMI offer extracurricular activities?

BMI values extracurricular activities, which foster leadership, teamwork, and social connections beyond the classroom. Our offerings include athletics, modern dance, choir, newspaper, and drama.

Does BMI have a program dedicated to keeping children at school after operating hours?

We provide parents and/or legal guardians with an extended care program offering both morning and evening options.

Morning care for one child costs $200, while evening care for one child costs $300. Combining morning and evening care for one child totals $400.

For families with multiple children, there's a 10% discount per child.

Parents can complete a form on the first day of school if they're interested in enrolling their child in extended care.

Volunteer opportunities for parents and/or legal guardians

BMI strongly encourages parents to volunteer to enhance the educational experience of their child. There are various opportunities available, including school events, after-school programs, and field trips.

Parents can sign up for volunteering by filling out a form provided on the first day of school.

How can I obtain my child's transcripts if they are transferring to high school soon?

Parents/legal guardians must fill out and sign a transcript request form, providing details like their relationship to the child, student’s grade level, homeroom teacher, and telephone number.

Transcripts typically take 48 hours to process.

Where can I find all the forms required to enroll my child at BMI?

All students will receive an enrollment packet containing all necessary forms for BMI enrollment.

If you haven't received these forms or need additional copies, they are available for download, completion, printing, and signing on our website's resources page.
